A Colorado suspect was arrested after he tried to escape in an Uber with more than $8,000 of stolen goods from a plumbing shop.

Last week, a man stole tools from a Wheat Ridge plumbing store and requested that Uber pick him up.

Wheat Ridge Police were dispatched to the store by the owner after he called 911 and reported that there was a hole in the fence of the property. The owner also told the officers that surveillance footage from the store had captured the suspect stealing tools.

As officers arrived on the scene, an Uber driver was waiting nearby. He told them that his passenger Jose was heading toward the vehicle.

A Colorado man carrying over $8,000 in stolen goods from a plumbing shop was arrested after police stopped him trying to escape using an Uber.

Are you looking for Uber? In a body-camera video released by the police, an officer asks a suspect “Are you looking for an Uber?”

The suspect was wearing a black sweater with the hood pulled up, and a ski mask in black. He looked away from the camera and put his hands into his pockets.

He answers hesitantly, “Uh… No.”

The man claims that his name is Raul and then takes several steps away from the police officers. He was immediately grabbed by the officers, but claimed he wasn’t trying to run away.

He claims innocence, saying he was on his way to his mother’s home.

He was told by officers that he fit the description of a thief but insisted he wasn’t the person they were searching for.
