A federal judge in New York ordered the release of nearly 200 names previously redacted in court documents in a case against Jeffrey Epstein’s former lover, and accomplice Ghislaine Maxiwell.
The Jane and John Did were released by U.S. district judge Loretta Preska in December, but they had two weeks to appeal.
The list was topped by former President Bill Clinton and his estranged longtime aide Doug Band. Prince Andrew and French modeling agent Jean Luc Brunel were also on the list. Brunel died, like Epstein, while awaiting trial.
JEFFREY EPPSTEIN SCANDAL : FEDERAL judge to UNSEAL 180 NAMES
Epstein was connected to many prominent people, including former U.S. Presidents, foreign Prime Ministers and Britain’s prince Andrew as well as Hollywood celebrities, academics of note, people from the fashion and modeling industries, and other public figures.
The names of some defendants were known to the public through other sources, despite the fact that they had been kept secret in the lawsuit.
Some names were not released for various reasons. These included the names of Epstein’s victims who were underage and one person whom the judge claimed had been falsely identifed.
Virginia Giuffre was an Epstein accuser, who claimed that he had trafficked her on his island Little St. James in the U.S. Virgin Islands, before she turned 18. In 2017, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement. She sued Prince Andrew and received a settlement.
Maxwell, in a separate criminal matter, was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison for trafficking Epstein’s victims.
