After he killed the intruder and wrestled his gun away, an Indianapolis homeowner described his fight for life as something from a movie.
Brent Smith, FOX59 Indianapolis said that a man in a mask broke into his house just before 7 pm and hit him with a gun as part of an attempted robbery. Smith claimed that he had fought off the intruder and smashed a glass dining table during the struggle.
Smith said, “It was almost like watching a movie with me and him fighting over the gun.”
Smith told the outlet he had shot the would be robber using his own gun before hearing “thousands” of gunshots from the outside.

Smith claimed that he fired at additional suspects, initially with the gun of the intruder and then with his own gun before they drove off. The gunfire damaged the front door of the house and the windows of the parked car on the street.
The station reported that the police responded and found the suspect intruder dead on the front porch. He was identified as Damon Swanigan Jr. (22-years-old).
Smith said that he acted out of self-defense, and was only trying to get through the ordeal.

“That’s not a good idea, man.” Smith stated that he didn’t wish to kill the intruder. “I didn’t know what he was going to do, but I did not want to be shot.” “That’s all there is.”
Smith was initially taken into custody by police for questioning, but later released without charge.
