Vili Fualaau (40), whose illicit affair and marriage after his conviction with his sixth-grade classmate made international headlines, has said that he was “offended” by Netflix’s hit movie about the scandal of the 1990s.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that “May December”, a critically acclaimed film from 2023, was inspired by the Mary Kay Letourneau trial, despite the fact that the couple met in a pet store rather than at a school.

Letourneau was sentenced initially to six months for two counts of child rape in the second degree after she became pregnant by Fualaau, a 12-year-old girl.

PRISONER RELEASED GYPSY ROSE TAKS BLANCHARD AS HER STAR ON THE INTERNET

Mary Kay Letourneau, a convicted child rapist, died from cancer in 2020 at the age of 58. She left behind her ex-husband Vili Fualaau and their daughters. Georgia, the youngest daughter, will be expecting a boy within the next few months.

After serving a three-month reduced sentence, she gave birth to her first child. She then conceived their second by breaking the post-release supervision terms. Letourneau had their second child during the seven years she spent in prison at Washington Corrections Center for Women. The couple married after her release.

Fualaau divorced Letourneau and remarried in 2020 after she died from cancer. He told The Hollywood Reporter the film could have been a “masterpiece” if the directors had consulted him.

Fualaau said, “I am still alive and well.” If they had reached me, we could work together. They chose instead to do a ripoff story of mine.”

Fualaau, who still lives in Seattle, is willing to work with filmmakers. He and Letourneau moved there after their highly publicized nuptials.

“I am offended by this entire project, and the disrespect shown to me. I lived through the real story that is still being told today,” he said.

After Letourneau died, he managed to keep his new partner’s identity a secret. Last year, Fualaau’s second daughter, a 24-year-old teacher who was embroiled in controversy, announced that she was pregnant.

Fualaau said that he wasn’t against the idea of making a movie about his incredible story. He said that the portrayal of his story in “May Decembre” was “simpler” than what he experienced.

I love good movies. I love movies that capture real life events and their complexities. “You know, movies that make you see something new or realize something different every time you watch,” he said to the outlet. “Those types of writers and director – someone who is able to do that – would be the perfect people to work with.”

Julianne Moore, who plays the lead in the film based on the infamous sex offenders, said at the November premiere that it was “not Mary Kay Letourneau’s story.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Todd Haynes, the director, said at the same event: “There were times when it was very, very useful to be very specific about research and we learned from that relationship.”

Fualaau’s story has already been co-opted by television, with USA Network airing “All American Girl: the Mary Kay Letourneau story.”

Anne Bremner of Seattle, who became friends with Letourneau in 2002 after defending the Des Moines Police Department, Highline School District, and Des Moines Police Department against a suit brought by Fualaau’s family, told Fox News Digital “May December” captured nuance about the couple’s love relationship long before Fualaau voiced her opposition to the adaptation.

She told Fox News Digital that she thought the movie did a good job of capturing the emotions and dynamics between Vili and Mary. “Some things were right out of my own case, like the pink lipstick and blush, or the fact that [Fualaau] is the seducer. Charles Milton’s performance of [Fualaau] has been praised by some as being so good that he deserves an Oscar. “He’s a kid raising kids.”

Bremner recalls that the subject of “pursuership” was raised repeatedly during the court proceedings as the relationship between the two was examined.

Matt Doran, the host of “Sunday Night in Australia” on Channel Seven in 2018, asked Fualaau repeatedly “who was the boss” in their initial romance. The interview was taped several months before they separated.

The interview served as an inspiration for one the most terrifying scenes in the film, where Moore’s character repeatedly asked Melton, “Who is the boss?” Who was in control?

Moore confronts Melton about the origins of their relationship.

Netflix, Burch Moore, Haynes, and Fualaau were not available for immediate comment.
