What is happening in Maine?

According to a Newsweek report, a new program in Maine will provide illegal migrants with a free apartment for two years. “Brunswick, Maine, plans to open 60 new apartments for migrants, with 24 of the units already complete, according to local news station WCSH-TV. The units are specifically planned for migrants awaiting their work permits, a process that can take more a year,” Newsweek reports.

The state will help pay for migrants’ rent using funds approved by the state Legislature.

“We have thousands of folks coming to Maine who want to make Maine home. We’re doing everything we can to help that situation,” Dan Brennan, the executive director of the Maine State Housing Authority, told a local radio station.

Meanwhile, the Maine Judiciary Committee postponed a Work Session on Wednesday on a controversial bill that would “block cops from reuniting children from out-of-state with their parents if they had been brought to Maine to receive sex change drugs or surgeries,” The Maine Wire reports.

Rep. David Haggan (R-Hampden), a school teacher, shared his opposition to the bill.

“This bill authorizes the kidnapping and massacring of children from other states without parental consent,” Haggan said, urging for an immediate rejection of the bill, emphasizing the need for a “compassionate stand in favor of our children’s physical and mental health.”
