Alejandro won’t accept any responsibility…
During an interview with Kristen Welker on Meet The Press over the weekend, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas refused to accept any responsibility for the border crisis.
Welker asked the failed border chief about a second attempt to impeach him happening this week —and she point-blank asked him why he should keep his job.
“You yourself have said that more than 85% of migrants caught crossing the border illegally are being released into the U.S. as they await their court dates,” Welker said. “Why do you deserve to keep your job, Mr. Secretary?”
Mayorkas, of course, dodged the question and instead opted to blame Congress for the crisis.
“But do you bear responsibility for what is happening at the border, what the president himself has called a crisis?” Welker asked.
After previously refusing to call the situation a crisis, Mayorkas said now that it “certainly is a crisis,” but added: “we don’t bear responsibility for a broken system, and we’re doing a tremendous amount within that broken system. But, fundamentally, fundamentally, Congress is the only one who can fix that.”
