A bomb explodes in an Indiana house, killing a father and injuring two children.

A father is dead and his two children were injured when a grenade detonated in their Indiana home on Saturday, according to authorities.

Authorities report that a father was killed and two of his children injured in a grenade explosion at their Indiana home Saturday.

Around 6:30 pm, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department was called to a home in the 3400 Block of W. Lakeshore Drive for a report of an explosion.

A hand grenade was discovered by a family while they were going through the belongings of a grandfather in a home located in northwestern Indiana. Sheriff’s Department says the device exploded when someone pulled its pin.

The father was found unconscious on the scene, and later declared dead. The father’s two children, an 18-year old woman and a 17 year-old boy, were both taken to a local hospital with shrapnel injuries.

According to the sheriff department, the Porter County Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene to secure the area and to determine if any explosive devices were present.

Lake County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident.
