The sheriff stated that the location was located behind a house the family had rent from VRBO.

The sheriff’s office released a statement saying, “We are devastated to confirm the discovery of the body of Evelyn K. Geer, 4 years old.”

The FWC found her an hour earlier while searching via boat. The sheriff’s department added: “Please keep the family in prayer as they endure this difficult time.”

Officials said that the sheriff had sent his department’s bloodhound out to look for the girl in diapers around a neighborhood bounded by Barksdale Street and Cochran Boulevard. This is about 30 miles north from Fort Myers.

Cochran was closed for the duration of the search, but has now reopened it to traffic.
