A Tennessee police officer was wounded in an incident in which a suspect was also shot in an exchange of gunfire on Thursday afternoon. The officer was in critical condition.

Police said that a man suspected of injuring a Tennessee police officer Thursday afternoon, was shot by other officers shortly afterward during an exchange of fire.

In a tweet, the Metro Nashville Police Department stated that the officer was in critical conditions shortly after the shooting. They asked the public to keep an eye out for the suspect.

Minutes later police reported that the suspect was shot by officers after engaging them behind a brush heap. The man was taken by police to hospital.

Police said that Officer Donovan Coble suffered a gunshot to the side of his body after responding to an initial report about a man who was armed breaking into cars.

No officers were injured. No further details were immediately available.
