The Republican is one of many who are calling on Congress to share information about what the federal government knew at end-2019 and early-2020, when the coronavirus began rapidly spreading across the United States.
The COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023, which was recently signed, will allow the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to declassify intelligence related China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology. Experts believe that this is where the pandemic began.
President Biden signed Monday’s legislation, stating that his administration would share as much as possible without compromising national safety.
Biden stated in a statement that his Administration would continue to review classified information relating COVID-19’s origins. This includes potential links to Wuhan Institute of Virology. My Administration will share and declassify as much information as is necessary to implement this legislation in accordance with my constitutional authority to prevent the disclosure of information that could harm national security.
