Authorities said that a man who was wounded after shooting an officer in Tennessee died at the hospital.

In a press release, the department stated that the officer, Metro Nashville Police detective Donovan Coble was expected to recover from being shot Thursday in his side while pursuing a suspect in an armed car burglary. Police said that Delama Casimir of Pompano Beach in Florida died after surgery a few hours later.

Police said officers responded initially to a report from The Parking Spot – a parking lot near the airport that is used by travelers – about an armed individual breaking into cars.

When officers confronted Casimir they told him to stop. But he ran and jumped a wooden fence, with Coble following him and telling him to stop. Casimir fired a pistol at the officer who returned the fire.

Coble served as a member of the Metro Nashville Police Department during the past four years. Brewer has been with the agency for 16 years.
