Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen says he is recovering from an attack earlier this month outside a Florida hotel.

Rick Allen, the drummer for Def Leppard, says he is currently recovering from an attack that occurred earlier in the month at a Florida hotel.

Allen was visiting South Florida to perform at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. He was taking a break from smoking outside the Four Seasons Hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Police have arrested a 19 year-old male suspect, but they do not believe he was involved in the attack. Police did not identify Allen or the suspect in their police report.

Allen, 59, shared his gratitude for the support he received through social media. He also said that he was relieved Lauren wasn’t there when the incident happened and that they are now working to recover in a safe place.

According to police, the attacker was hiding behind a wall outside the hotel and Allen was lighting a cigarette. Allen was knocked to the ground by the man who ran at him.

According to police reports, Allen was seen falling by a woman who ran to help him. The man attacked her then.

He ran to another hotel, where he began breaking windows of cars until witnesses stopped him and the police arrived. The man was charged with battery, criminal mischief and abuse of an elderly or disabled person.

Allen’s left arm was broken in an accident in 1984.

In an Instagram photo, Allen was wearing a Fort Lauderdale police blue t-shirt.
