Agenda of the 118th Congress on Foreign Policy

Join us for TAC's 10th annual foreign policy conference.  The post A Foreign Policy Agenda for the 118th Congress appeared first on The American Conservative.

The American foreign policy is more complex than ever. The country is facing a variety of unprecedented challenges, including the war between Russia, Ukraine and China, as well as the threat from China and the Middle East.

We are also in the middle of a leadership crisis. Congress has ceded much of its power to entities with little accountability towards the American people, such as the administrative state and military-industrial complex. This abdication has many negative effects on foreign policies, outsourcing important decisions about national security, foreign affairs, and even war to unaccountable corporations and bureaucrats.

Since its founding in 2003, the American Conservative is the leading voice of a truly conservative foreign policy, which places America’s interest first and promotes prudence and restraint.

The magazine has tried to amplify the prescient warnings from our founder Patrick J. Buchanan. This is in light of both the recklessness displayed by the foreign-policy establishment, and the malign influences of so-called conservatism who have pushed America into immoral nation-building initiatives, costing American blood and treasure, with little to show.

Many conservatives who opposed the direction of the interventionist policy that was favored by the establishment for many decades were marginalized. They had little institutional standing, and even fewer representatives at the national levels.

The American right’s momentum has changed in recent years. In recent years, a growing number of Congress members are advocating a realistic, conservative, and “America First” foreign policy. They also seek to reassert Congressional power to give Americans a say in the policies that will represent the United States to the rest of the world.

On Capitol Hill on June 8, we will gather many of these members together to chart the course for the 118th congress and, more generally, the future of American Foreign Policy.

Many of the Senators and Representatives who have been at the forefront in articulating and promoting an American foreign policy over quixotic adventure abroad will be speaking.

We will hear Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky, who is a veteran and a leader in the struggle for a more rational approach to international affairs.

We’ll also be joined by Senator Mike Lee of Utah, who has been a strong proponent of congressional authority and an opponent of the recklessness that has characterized much of our policymaking–including foreign policy–in recent years.

Warren Davidson, Ohio’s representative will be here to discuss the recent article published in our pages entitled “Toward a Realism American Grand Strategy“, and to share his vision of future American strategy.

We will also hear from the Representatives Dan Bishop, Eli Crane, Matt Gaetz, Matt Gaetz, of Florida who were the leaders of the opposition against the recent, ill-considered, and incredibly expensive, aid to Ukraine. They will share their opinions on how Congress can bring sanity to our international relationships.
