Alabama’s sheriff race is tied.

Alabama's sheriff race has ended in a tie and is headed to a recount on Nov. 18. If the race remains a tie, state law requires the winner to be picked by drawing lots.

The race to become sheriff of southern Alabama’s Conecuh County ended in a tie and will now be recounted.

According to certified election results, Randy Brock and Mike Blackmon each received 2,225 votes.

Alabama’s sheriff race is tied and will be recounted on Nov. 18. State law mandates that the winner be chosen by drawing lots if the race is still tied.

Blackmon was losing the race by just one vote, Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl stated.

Wahl stated that the race will be subject to an automatic recount. A recount is required by state law if the margin of victory falls below half a percentage point. State law mandates that the winner be chosen by drawing lots if the race is still tied.
