Sometimes people ask to change seats on an airplane in order to sit next to someone they love or to avoid being stuck in a middle seat. A passenger on an airline flight was recently viral because he couldn’t switch seats to to sit next to his wife.
Naomi, a New York City visitor to Fox News, said that if it’s a first-class seat with a lot of people and you’re not in coach or in business, then maybe asking for a change would be inappropriate. “It’s okay to ask, but the person can always refuse.”

Others had other reasons not to change seats.
“If I were a nervous flyer, like I am, then I choose certain seats. Kellieann from the Big Apple told Fox News that she would say that I cannot move due to this reason. “But if it was just because I chose a normal seat of course, of course I’d give someone my seat any day.”
However, some New Yorkers might move if there is a baby aboard.

Serenity Haley from American Airlines stated on TikTok that assigned seats are necessary for safety.

Haley stated that before take-off, Haley always does a weight and balance to ensure the weight is correct and the balance is safe. So, when you move your seats, you actually change the plane’s balance.
