ARIVACA (Ariz.) – A rancher at the southern border claimed he has seen an increase in drug smugglers, sometimes carrying guns, crossing his land. He also found bodies of migrants trying to cross his land to get into the U.S.
Jim Chilton, Chilton Ranch owner, stated to Fox News that “we’ve been here 35+ years and it’s an amazing ranch. But we are very pissed off that all these drug-packers are coming to our ranch to poison the American people.”

The border wall protected part of Chilton’s property. He asked President Biden to complete construction to protect him and his family. On one occasion, he said that Chilton’s wife Sue was at home and answered the knock to see if there were any MS-13 members with guns.
Chilton, who is from a long line ranchers, said that it was “kind of scary.” “That’s just the way of life at the border.”
Chilton stated that thousands of migrants had crossed his property in 2022. This was a substantial increase over years past. Many are likely to be drug-addicts, he suspects.
Arizona border officers in Nogales, about 30 miles from Chilton seized approximately 776,000 fentanyl tablets, 289 pounds meth and 55 pounds heroin on Monday. Customs and Border Protection Nogales port Director Michael Humphries tweets that nearly 15,000 pounds worth of fentanyl was seized at the southern border this year according to CBP.

Despite safety concerns, Chilton and his wife still help migrants on numerous occasions.
Chilton stated that “Nobody should die in the desert,” irrespective of their criminal status. “We provide water to people, but the bad guys are at our ranch.”
Chilton claimed that he had installed drinking fountains in order to help migrants. He said that he has seen “a lot” of people die at the ranch.
According to U.S. Border Patrol data , at least 853 migrants were killed crossing the southern border in 2015. This surpasses the previous record of 547 in 2020, according CBS News.

Chilton stated, “We see the humanitarian crise.” “A wall can save lives,” Chilton stated.
According to CBP, nearly 4 million migrants have entered the United States from Mexico since Biden became president. Nearly 1 million of these migrants have crossed Arizona.
Chilton blams the influx for the incomplete border wall that Biden stopped in 2021.
Chilton stated that Congress must appropriate the money needed to secure the border. “If there were a wall, people wouldn’t be sacrificing their lives on my ranch or other ranches.”

The Chiltons refused to leave their ranch for three decades despite safety concerns.
Chilton stated that many of his fellow ranchers have left the area. “I have a family cemetery, so I’m either going to be above the ground or below it. But I’m not leaving.”
