As Tropical Storm Nicole approaches Florida, Daytona Beach Shores buildings collapse

A beachside building has partially collapsed in Daytona Beach, Florida, as the effects of Tropical Storm Nicole begin battering eastern Florida.

On Wednesday, Daytona Beach Shores Police began to evacuate structures along the coast that were deemed unsafe by Tropical Storm Nicole.

FOX 35 news captured footage from a beach safety building near the coast.

Officials claim that many buildings on Daytona Beach’s shores suffered previous damage from Hurricane Ian. They are now more at risk of severe damage from the incoming storm.

Officials are working to evacuate residents from Daytona Beach Shores by Wednesday at 4 p.m. Volusia County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for residents by Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

The Bahamas was hit by Tropical Storm Nicole on Wednesday night with winds of up to 70 mph.

As it looks at Florida’s battered east coast, Nicole is expected to reach hurricane strength by Wednesday.

Wednesday morning saw a wave pound the coastline as a strong tropical storm hit.

Nicole is expected to weaken as it moves across Florida and the Southeast United States Thursday-Friday. It is likely that Nicole will become a posttropical cyclone Friday night over the Mid Atlantic states.
