Atlanta teens are arrested in shooting that killed 2 youths

Two teenagers have been arrested in Atlanta on charges linked to a shooting that left two people dead. Both suspects face two counts of murder, aggravated assault and gang charges.

Authorities said Wednesday that two teenagers were being held on charges related to an attack last month in Atlanta, which left one child and one adult dead.

The arrests were announced Wednesday by Atlanta Police Chief Charles Hampton Jr., according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The names of the suspects were not released. Hampton stated that both men are facing two charges of murder, aggravated attack, and gang offenses.

Hampton stated that the two suspects, aged 15 and 16, were both students at the Atlanta public schools system. With the help of the U.S., the 16-year old was captured in New York City. He said that the Marshals Service helped him.

Hampton stated that “This investigation is still ongoing.” “We do anticipate additional charges.”

Investigators have not released details about a possible motive in the shooting. It took place on Nov. 26, near the Atlantic Station retail area and residential area.

Zyion Charles (12 years old) died on the spot, while Cameron Jackson (15 years old) died several days later from his injuries, authorities stated. Police said that four other children, all aged under 18, were treated and released from a local hospital.

The shooting was captured by video surveillance cameras. After the shooting, a group of teens boarded a MARTA train at Arts Center station. Police previously stated that train cameras captured the teens displaying guns and celebrating as they rode through the city.
