Biden responded to the attack with a statement where he called for an “assault weapons ban”

The statement

Partly, he said, “For both the lives lost and the lives that can be saved, I took historic actions to stop gun violence in this country, including signing the largest gun safety law in almost 30 years. But we must do more. We must pass an assault weapons ban. American citizens support commonsense action to remove weapons of war from our streets. It has been passed by the House Democrats. It should be passed by the Senate. It can be sent to me and I will sign it.
