Biden’s State of the Union gets spicy as he attacks GOP over debt talks

The president warned that some GOP lawmakers were playing with fire on the nation’s bills.

The House chamber erupted in jeers as President Joe Biden scolded Republicans about the national debt during his State of the Union address on Tuesday.

“No president added more to the national debt than my predecessor,” Biden said. “Nearly 25 percent of the entire national debt that took over 200 years to accumulate was added by just one administration alone.”

The statement prompted boos, to which Biden retorted, “Those are the facts. Check it out.”

In a nod to the upcoming debt ceiling negotiations, Biden warned that some GOP lawmakers were playing with fire on the nation’s bills.

“Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans — some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset,” Biden said, to more sustained boos from GOP lawmakers.

In response, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) leapt to her feet and appeared to yell, “Liar!”
