Boys Just Wanna Be Girls

No one is surprised that makeup companies are leading the transgender trends. Ulta Beauty is interested in selling makeup to boys. Ulta posted a snippet of its podcast on October 13 in which a man wearing a Jackie O-style jacket and a minidress declared victory against transgender stereotypes. It was clear that Dylan Mulvaney, an aspiring Broadway actor and influencer, wanted to become a mother one day. This was to say that I want the same things as other girls and I can get it. Transgenderism is no longer a place for the perverted and confused (and Extremely Online), as Katherine Dee documented. What became apparent in this brief snippet was that transgenderism has become a place for an increasingly social outcast, the opportunistic man.

The podcast episode is part of a new series called The Beauty Of…. Other episodes include interviews of a female powerlifter, and “The Beauty of Fatness,” which features a woman who has a master’s in sexuality studies. Mulvaney is featured in Episode 2 of “The Beauty of Girlhood” with host David Lopez. Mulvaney wears his own wig, high heels, and presents himself as a man on other episodes. Mulvaney and Lopez gush about their girlhood and Mulvaney’s rise to internet fame following a TikTok called “Day 1 Of Being A Girl.” The series, which Mulvaney chronicles as a male transitioning man, has become wildly popular and often serious.

Ulta was criticized for her podcast snippet, which included calls to boycott the beauty shop. The caption, “Trans Girls Can Do it All!” was used. Women who have fought for decades for equality in society are now being coopted by men. The assertion is a rude slap on the face for women who realized they couldn’t do everything and had to choose one over the other. The most troubling aspect of motherhood was its commoditization. Mulvaney’s voice is full of possessiveness.

Abigail Shrier, journalist, wrote Irreversible damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters about the dramatic increase in gender confusion among teenage girls. The book, published in 2020, described how young women were converting to the latest social gospels through friendship groups. Gender dysphoria was a rare condition that affected less than 0.01 per cent of the world’s population. The few people it did affect were almost entirely male. Shrier argued that the social contagion of girls asking for testosterone is distinct from the niche mental disorder often entwined in sexual perversion and affecting men.

Men are also transitioning, though in the fake-reality of the influencers world, it might seem that they are the most numerous. Men in drag are all the rage, sharing makeup tutorials and discount codes like the women they want to be. Women with beards seem to get fewer sponsorships, or are less popular. Many of these makeup artists are performers, artists and theatre kids.

It seems reasonable to assume that transgender Americans have increased in number. Mulvaney cites the pandemic in Mulvaney’s instance as the catalyst. Although he initially feared losing his job, he now finds that he is more comfortable with female roles and can better understand them.

Mulvaney saw this as the perfect opportunity to launch his career. Mulvaney, once a sad tap dancer, was told that he had to “bulk-up” in order to be successful. Now, with 600,000 Instagram followers and a speech at the Forbes Power Women Summit to discuss his “transness,” his weakness has been an asset rather than a liability.

A woman’s status is not only beneficial to those in certain professions. It can also lead to a higher social status. This is evident in our reverence for motherhood. Modern Americans have a great respect for mothers who have children, despite having lost much of their true purpose. This reverence is not based on the actual work of raising children but on what the mother represents in 21st century America. Ulta tweets that this reverence refers to the idea that all women can do it all. Mother’s Day is a time to remember the mom who worked her 9-5 and returned home in time to take the 5-to-9 shift with the children (don’t pay attention to the nanny).

Mulvaney claims he wants to become a mother because he believes, regardless of whether he has thought about it in these terms before, that few roles are more revered than those of a mother. It is worth asking Mulvaney if his attitude is different than that of any other American girlboss in 2022. Mulvaney seems to be able to motherhood despite its hollowed-out meaning. If women are able to add children to their careers, it shouldn’t be difficult. It’s not only possible for women to become mothers through sperm donation and surrogate. Why shouldn’t men do the same?

Only in the wake of feminism has men qua men become a liability to success in many aspects. We’ve seen the effects of feminism in higher education. Men as a whole have lost the desire and ability to excel in academia, regardless of the individual success. This is also evident in the workforce with women being more employable than the other sexes. It’s no longer admirable to be a man who makes the world his oyster. It is, however, admirable to live a weak, apologetic life, which is something our human nature eventually leads us to hate. It is admirable to exist as a woman, however.

It’s easy to see the advantages men get from being called women, regardless of their motivations. These men are attempting to be the opposite of sex and display behavior that is not natural. However, this is surprising considering our attitudes towards women and men. The desire to succeed is natural. This ability to compartmentalize – to enter a completely different headspace at work and home and swap one for the other – is a male strength. It’s a great opportunity!
