Budweiser offers money back for Bud Light sales following transgender marketing backlash

Just in time for Memorial Day: cheap beer — and in some cases, practically free.

In time for Memorial Day, cheap beer is available and in some cases it’s practically free.

AB InBev’s parent company Bud Light has launched a promotional campaign offering a refund of up to 15 dollars to win back the customers of this beer, which was once the top seller in the U.S.

The web address of the promotion is BudLight.com/BudLightOnUs.

Residents of the United States can use this link to submit proof of purchase for a 15-pack or greater of Budweiser or Bud Light or Bud Select or Bud Select55 to receive a $15 prepaid card. The purchase can be made up until May 31, and the card can be used for six months.

This promotion comes in response to the backlash that Bud Light has received since its decision to use transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney to be a spokesperson for March Madness. Alissa Herinerscheid, the vice president of Bud Light’s marketing who was appointed in June last year, made comments on a recent Podcast that were met with negative responses from many customers. She also called for the brand to be “inclusive.”

AB InBev didn’t immediately respond to a comment request.

Beer Business Daily cites data showing that Bud Light sales continue to decline through the week of May 13 as the negative sentiment towards the beverage continues to grow.

AB InBev’s shares have fallen 5% this year and 14% since Mulvaney’s clip was posted online.
