San Bernardino police killed and shot a man who lit a palm tree in flames and then charged officers with a large chunk of wood, officials stated.
According to the San Bernardino Police Department, the shooting took place last Wednesday at a vacant residence west of downtown.
Police said that officers responding at 11 p.m. discovered the tree was ablaze and were confronted with a man holding a “wooden bludgeon”.

According to police, the man pulled out a shovel and dropped it. He then grabbed another wooden object that he was holding onto, which he then swung at an officer.
Officials said that after the man refused to obey commands, police deployed a stun gun but failed to open fire.

According to the Southern California News Group, the man who died on the spot was Delfino Avila. His age and the city where he resides were not immediately known.
Police did not specify which types of wood Avila used to threaten officers.
