A California father was arrested Thursday on child pornography charges after his wife allegedly found a hidden camera in their guest bathroom that turned up more than 900 images of child pornography, the Redding Police Department announced.

Ryan Rovito (34), of Redding was arrested on Thursday. This occurred just over a week after his wife discovered the hidden camera. He also handed over a hard drive and other documents to police. According to the Redding Police Department, authorities discovered images and videos of child pornography from the device after conducting a forensic investigation.

Police stated that the videos were of children and adults using the toilet, but they didn’t seem to be aware they were being recorded.

Rovito allegedly confessed to knowing about the camera, but promised to get rid of it after his wife discovered it March 8.

According to the department, Rovito’s wife handed over the electronics to police after she “feared Mr. Rovito had nefariously filmed their young children using the toilet.” Detectives completed an analysis of the items and found hundreds of photos, multiple videos. They took Rovito into custody during a Redding traffic stop.

According to Redding Police, he was booked in Shasta County Jail for child pornography possession and surreptitious recording a person identifiable as undressed.

His name was removed from the online jail inmate list on Sunday morning.

Rovito didn’t immediately respond to a Sunday text message to the phone number listed under him. It wasn’t immediately clear if Rovito has a lawyer who could speak for him.

Rovito’s spouse could not be reached immediately.
