California police bodycam footage exhibits moment robbery suspect is usually shot after approaching police officer with knife

A Florida man was shot by police after trying to steal a purse from an elderly woman in an incident that was captured on body camera footage and released to the public.

Florida police released bodycam footage of a suspect in a robbery. The officer had been confronted with a knife and ignored orders to drop the weapon.

An officer of the Sarasota Police Department can heard shouting at Robert Briandi (70), who they claim had just tried to steal the purse and groceries of an 83 year-old woman at a Publix. WTVT TV reported.

“No, no,” Briandi responds. Briandi replies, “No, no,”

Sarasota Police fired upon a man who allegedly attempted to rob an elderly lady (Sarasota Police Department).

Briandi then walks several steps towards the officer, at which point he opens fire.

Sarasota Police received 911 calls Tuesday morning around 10:10 a.m., after Briandi tried to take the purse from an elderly woman. Others rushed to her aid after she fought back.

Captain John Todd, commander of the Sarasota Police Department’s criminal investigation division, stated that “She did an excellent job fighting off him off.” She was attacked from behind by an assailant using a knife and she did a great job of protecting her self.”

Briandi was captured by an onlooker on his cell phone as he fled and was followed to a nearby Homewood Suites hotel.

Todd stated, “This good Samaritan went beyond and beyond the call to duty. But I believe without his actions we might have had such a rapid conclusion of the incident.”

According to police, Briandi has a criminal history in Florida and New York that dates back the 1970s.

Briandi is reported to be stable after surgery.
