Coast Guard and Florida firefighters rescue 2 people & a cat from a sailboat that was smashed into by waves.

U.S. Coast Guard members and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department rescued two boaters and a car from a vessel that lost power and became stranded near Mayport, Florida.

The U.S. Officials say that the Coast Guard and firefighters assisted in saving two boaters and their cat who lost power on Thursday near Mayport, Florida.

Officials said that the 34-foot sailboat was from Virginia and took on water as it crashed into the rocks near Mayport.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the sailboat lost its power and started taking on water as the waves crashed into it. (Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department).

Two individuals and their cat were removed from the vessel by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and USCG personnel around 4:45 a.m. in what officials described as a “dramatic rescue.”

WJXT reported that fire officials stated that the conditions at the rescue were hazardous because of a nor-easter offshore.
