Comeback bid for Republican candidate ended after he was accused of lying about his military records

It's good news for House Republicans, after JR Majewski lost a competitive Ohio seat in 2022.

JR Majewski has ended his comeback attempt. The Republican who supports Trump was accused of lying about his military records.

This is a dramatic ending for the Republican who lost his competitive Ohio congressional seat 2022 due to reports that he lied about having served in Afghanistan. Despite no records indicating such a deployment, Majewski has denied lying. Majewski denies lying about his records.

According to a POLITICO letter, Majewski, a veteran of the Air Force who ran against Marcy Kaptur, a veteran Democratic Rep., in April, announced his decision to pull out of the race via email on Tuesday. He said that his mother was scheduled to have triple bypass surgery in the next few weeks and that he needed time to assist her recovery.

“Yes. Majewski confirmed this to POLITICO. He added that his family was “top priority.”

It is a major victory for House Republicans who were reluctant to have Majewski run again following the disastrous midterm results. Kaptur’s redistricting was based on a Toledo Republican seat that the former president Donald Trump would have won by 3 points under the new boundaries in 2020. The Associated Press revealed that Majewski misrepresented his service in the military. This spooked National Republican Congressional Committee who cut their planned ad purchase for the district.

Majewski won the primary in 2022 against two other state lawmakers, despite a lack of campaign spending and infrastructure. Perhaps his most notable act was turning his lawn twice into a Trump shrine. Majewski lost his seat by double-digits due to a lack of fundraising, negative press and inadequate outside help.

His family’s health problems prevented him from trying again in 2024.

I hope you understand. Majewski wrote that this was one of the most difficult decisions he had ever made.
