DeSantis, Scourge Of Wokeness

It's on! Florida governor announces plan to defund DEI and CRT bureaucracies at state universities The post DeSantis, Scourge Of Wokeness appeared first on The American Conservative.

It is hard to believe that a Republican leader has the fortitude and will to fight against wokeness. But Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, however, is the real deal. The Sunshine State has some fresh news:

Gov. Ron DeSantis presented a number of proposals to Florida’s public universities on Tuesday at the State College of Florida

One aspect of the proposal would remove all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Critical Race Theory (CRT), “bureaucracies” at public universities.

DeSantis stated that his administration would propose core course requirements that “focus on giving them the foundation to think for themselves” and that will be grounded in “actual philosophy which has shaped west civilization.”

He said, “We don’t want students to go through at taxpayer expense and graduate with a degree on zombie studies.” This is going to make a difference.

It’s happening. It is actually happening. It’s happening. The DEI bureaucracies in American universities have seen an explosion in recent years. This is partly because the woke cartel intimidated state legislators and other members of the legislature by calling them bigots who don’t care about “marginalized students” if they resist. These bureaucracies are making campuses more tolerant or worsening existing ones by instilling policies and programs that encourage grievance and intimidate those who disagree. Would the ten-thousand dollars spent on these apparatchiks salaries have been better spent on hiring more teachers or raising the salaries for professors? DeSantis’s action will force militants to justify their existence.

More garbage like the New York Times op ed slandering DeSantis’s ban on the AP African American History Course. The author is furious:

Laws that suppress and censor the views, histories, and experiences of historically marginalized groups (especially Black and L.G.B.T.Q.) is a constant assault on truth and freedom to expression. The assault on truth and freedom of expression is ongoing across the country, with the most obvious example being Florida. Recently, the state’s Department of Education rejected a pilot Advanced Placement African American Studies course that was being offered in Florida’s public high school.

Governor. Ron DeSantis’s ” STOP WOKE” law, which would restrict students and teachers from discussing issues related to race or gender, Florida is leading a national campaign to silence Black voices.

Bullsh*t. Let me tell you why in a moment. Another quote from the essay

These attacks not only target historically marginalized individuals but also our experiences of intersectionality. Recently, Mr. DeSantis criticized the inclusion “queer theory” in the A.P. This rejected African American Studies course seemed to ignore the need to teach future generations about queer Black American icons such as Pauli Murray and Bayard Rustin. Florida’s H.B. Florida’s H.B.

It is BS! DeSantis made it clear when he banned the course that he would not allow the AP course in Florida to promote tendentious, highly ideologic readings on black history under the guise “teaching about black history”. Which he supports fully. This is a lie. If you don’t give these ideological warriors all they want, you must be a BIGOT. DeSantis is actually doing his job. He wants to make sure that Florida’s public schools don’t have to teach history and neoMarxist propaganda.

This is how the woke act. In my previous post on a controversy at a Florida Baptist Church, I cited accusations made by a member to the church about their decision to make affirming basic Biblical doctrine about gender and sexuality (as oppose to the woke definition) a condition for membership. It is not a condition for walking into the church and attending it, but rather of joining the fellowship. This lesbian ranter claims that the church sets conditions for membership. “Katie” was not able to stay and see what the pastor in question answered her at the town hall meeting. She didn’t want to be answered. She did not want to have dialogue. She wanted silence and intimidation. This is how it works.

Ron DeSantis understands how it works. He’s fed up. DeSantis, unlike other Republican senior politicians who talk about waking up but do little to fight it, is waging a fierce battle. It’s worth the fight. Bravo to him! Let’s hope that the Florida governor’s example inspires other GOP legislators and governors. Ron DeSantis, the Republican to be watched heading into the 2024 presidential election, is clear.

UPDATE: It’s now! :

Governor Ron DeSantis’ vocal critic supports the state’s rejection of the College Board’s AP African American Studies course. According to Tallahassee Reports, Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor (black — RD) criticized the course for being “trash” when he was asked about the controversy.

“There are serious concerns about the tone of the leadership’s voice from high places in the state, which is hostile to teaching African American history. Proctor stated that he was against the College Board’s curriculum.

“I think it’s garbage. It is not African American history. He continued, “It is ideology.” “I have taught African American history and I have created syllabuses for African American History. I am African American history. Talking about feminism and queerness for the struggle to freedom, equality, and justice has not been without tension with queerness or feminist thought.
