Driver killed in a tanker accident, Maryland homes set on fire

A tanker truck overturned on a Maryland highway Saturday in a fiery crash that killed the driver and burned vehicles and homes, authorities said.

FREDERICK, Md. FREDERICK, Md. — Saturday’s fiery crash on a Maryland highway resulted in the death of the driver.

The truck collided with U.S. 15, Frederick, which is about an hour drive west of Baltimore. According to the State Highway Administration , both directions were closed for an “extended closure”.

According to the Frederick News-Post , the vehicle was a tanker of gas that had overturned and hit a tree before exploding. Photos showed billowing smoke and massive flames.

Maryland State Police Twitter said that the driver was killed and that the cause of the accident is being investigated. According to the agency, the fire caused damage to “multiple homes and vehicles” and nobody else was injured.
