The Garden State Parkway in New Jersey was reopened on Friday morning after firefighters contained a forest fire that had spread to 5,000 acres and produced thick smoke plumes.
About 25 miles, or the major north-south road of the state, were reopened just before 11 am.
A fire broke out in Bass River State Forest on Wednesday evening, near the border between Burlington County and Ocean County in southern New Jersey. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reported that the fire was 50% contained and did not threaten any residential areas or structures as of Friday morning.

Wildfires forced the closure of a 25-mile stretch along the Garden State Parkway.
As a precaution, about 40 people were evacuated from a campground on Thursday. The site was closed Friday.
Authorities are still trying to determine the cause for the wildfire. A 158-acre fire broke out in the White Oaks Wildlife Management Area, Monroe and Franklin Townships in Gloucester County on Monday night. No injuries or damage was reported.
