Five children killed in NY car crash. 16-year old driver was behind the wheel.

Five kids from Connecticut were killed in a single vehicle crash Sunday when the vehicle that was being driven by a 16-year-old male hit a tree and caught fire, police said.

In a fiery car accident that occurred overnight in New York five children were killed, including the driver of the vehicle who was 16 years old.

Scarsdale, New York authorities said that the children were on their way to Scarsdale when the Nissan Rogue in which they were driving crashed into a tree. The fire started and the kids were taken to hospital.

Five children aged 8-17 died in the accident. A 9-year old boy was able to survive and was transported to Westchester Medical Center without any life-threatening injuries. According to police, the 9-year old was in a hatchback/cargo space at the time of the accident and was able escape through the rear.

Police said that the crash occurred at 12:20 on Sunday along the Hutchinson River Parkway. It was a single-vehicle accident.

Police determined that the probable driver of the vehicle was a 16-year old. Four of the victims were males and one female. All five victims were from Connecticut.

The accident occurred at 12:20 on Sunday morning. police stated that it was a one-vehicle accident.

The incident is still under investigation. Police were unable to identify the origin or destination of the vehicle.
