Former Florida deputy sheriff arrested after tipping friend off to allegations of having sex a minor

A former Florida sheriff's deputy allegedly tipped off a friend accused of having sex with a minor before he could be arrested.

Authorities said that a former Florida deputy sheriff was arrested for allegedly helping his friend who had been accused of having sexual relations with a minor to avoid arrest.

Arturo Dominguez worked for the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office when the alleged crime occurred. He was fired Wednesday and arrested.

He is facing four felony charges – official misconduct for obstructing a criminal investigation, accessory to the unlawful sexual activity of a minor after the event, unauthorised access of computers and devices, and disclosure or misuse of confidential criminal justice data, Fox Orlando reported.

According to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said Dominguez ran Omar Ayala’s names repeatedly in a database. Dominguez claimed that he had pulled Ayala aside for a traffic check when questioned.

The investigators learned that the two were long-time friends.

The news station reported that Dominguez said later he checked Ayala’s name to determine if there were any warrants against him and said he spoke with him about this.

Ayala was told to leave by the man who said he did it later. Ayala is not in custody and is still being sought.
