The teen murder suspects who are accused of shooting down Georgia teen football player Elijah DeWitt at a Dave & Buster’s mall parking lot are due back in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing.
Fox News Digital confirmed that the hearing will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Gwinnett County Jail.
Since Kemare Bryan (18 years old) and Chandler Richardson (19 years old), were first brought before a judge in October 12, few developments have been made. Both were still wearing street clothes that they wore when they were first captured in South Carolina.
Each defendant was told by a judge , “You’re coming to be here for some while,” explaining how only a superior judge can set bond on felony charges. They’ll have to wait until another hearing.
DeWitt was an 18-year old wide receiver, nicknamed “Eazy E”, by NFL legend Cam Newton. He died from gunshot wounds on Oct. 5 in the Sugarloaf Mills Mall , Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Initial police statements stated that the motive was still under investigation. However, it appears that the suspects were acquainted with the victim and an altercation occurred in the parking lot. The shooting then followed.
Bailey Reidling, DeWitt’s longtime girlfriend, spoke out to Fox News Digital about the aftermath of the horrific shooting that occurred during a date night with their friends.
She claimed that DeWitt had spoken to the suspects at Dave & Buster’s several days prior. DeWitt’s group was approached by the suspects and they asked if they had any marijuana for sale.
“I run to Elijah and he’s lying on the ground. I walk right over to him and he mouths to my — the last thing he said was ‘Help’,” Reidling stated to Fox News Digital. You’re in shock and you can’t stop screaming. It’s almost like you’re letting out a scream, but it’s not something you try to do. I checked his pulse and was a bit alarmed. There is absolutely nothing. A sweet lady came round the corner and said, “Baby, he just received shot.” Keep calm. We dialed 911. We called 911.
Reidling stated that she did not know how the suspect knew her boyfriend had been back the night before the shooting. Investigators were also looking at their cell phone records.
Both Reidling and DeWitt’s father expressed their desire for forgiveness.
“Just as his father said, you don’t really know. Reidling stated to Fox News Digital that you don’t know the circumstances in which these children were raised, or what their experiences were like. It’s wrong. It will never be right. This isn’t the only crime. It is all around, Elijah. It’s terrible.”
Reidling stated that she traveled with her boyfriend from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C., where DeWitt was a member of a seven-on-7 team. This earned him recognition from Newton.
Reidling shared an inspiriting Instagram post last week that showed Reidling wearing DeWitt’s number and joining his sister, mother, and father on the Jefferson High School football field.
Reidling wrote that Reidling’s senior night tribute was made just days after DeWitt had “gained your angel wings”. It hurt so bad to miss you. Love you, my angel.”
DeWitt had aspirations to play college ball, and eventually make it into the NFL.
Fox News Digital reached out immediately to Bryan and Richardson’s attorneys, but they did not respond.
