Ghosts

It’s Halloween today, so I thought I would have something seasonal. Above is the “Chloe Postcard”, a famous haunted house in Louisiana. Just behind the white column, you will see the intersection of the two buildings. The image of a somewhat stooped woman will be visible. You’ll see the image of a slightly stooped woman.

All my ghost stories have been told over the years so I won’t go into detail. For starters, is a collection of humorous anecdotes by travel writers. There was a great story in The Times about living in a haunted home. Excerpts.

Shane Booth, a Benson, N.C.-based photography professor, was doing laundry in his bedroom when he heard a loud and crashing sound. He saw his dog outside the window, and he stepped out to see it shattered. His dog had jumped through the window, but he was unsure how.

Mr. Booth returned to his bedroom, where all the clothes he had just folded were left scattered. “That was when I realized that this is really scary now,” stated Mr. Booth, 45.

Booth spoke out about other strange and eerie experiences that led him to believe his century-old home is haunted. He found pictures he had hung on the wall, which he later discovered were perfectly placed on the floor. He saw vases move to different places, had momentsary sightings (an elderly man) and heard laughter when nobody else was present. He said, “There are so many small things that happen sporadically that you just cannot explain.”

This story continues with survey data that shows an astonishing number of Americans believe that they have lived or are living in haunted houses. More:

Many people believe ghosts can follow them from house to house.

Lisa Asbury has been living in Dunlap, Ill. for three years. She said that the paranormal activity she has observed in her home in Dunlap, Ill., began after her husband’s death in 2018. It is almost identical to what she’s currently experiencing. 43-year-old Ms. Asbury said she has seen objects fall from shelves, lights flash in several rooms, and fan blades suddenly turn. She added that she hears her name called “When I’m alone”, phantom footsteps and our dogs barking, while staring at nothing.

Ms. Asbury stated that nothing felt aggressive. Attention-seeking. She said, “I believe that our spirits are family.” “I feel like different family members visit us at different times.”

Although it was difficult at first, she has learned to live in the ghostly environment. Ms. Asbury stated that if something happens, she will usually acknowledge it loudly or simply say hello to the spirit.

It is not surprising that young people are more inclined to believe in ghosts. More:

Generational differences exist in the belief in ghosts. According to the Vivint survey 65 percent of Gen Zers, who were people born between 1997-2012, believed their home was haunted. Only 35 percent of the baby boomers, who were born between 1946 and 1964, thought the same.

Maddie Weirman was one of the Vivint survey researchers. She said, “With so many conversation on TikTok regarding true crime, podcasts concerning haunted objects and crime documentaries,”

Ms. Hill stated that Gen Z might be looking for meaning in other places. If the modern world isn’t feeding the soul and capitalism is a system that drains people of personal enlightenment, then it’s easy to see that the younger generations will seek out alternative worlds — ghosts, aliens etc. — to be appealing to explore.

Well. You already know I believe in ghosts and have met them. They aren’t what I know, and they don’t exist. It is difficult to reconcile them with my theology. In 1994, my grandfather’s ghost sounded a scream in my parents’ house. We were able to find out that God allowed him to stay to ask for forgiveness from my father. This was because “God had some mysterious reason” for it to happen. The priest and his assistant told us that it was my grandfather’s spirit and that he couldn’t move forward until my father forgive him. The priest blessed the house and my dad agreed. That was it.

Another time I had a direct encounter was in Dallas in 2005 when a friend, who wasn’t a religious believer, told me in tears about the spirits that lived in the house she and her children moved into following her divorce. My friend had lived there for about a decade, and was getting tired of it all. To see if it would help, she agreed to let me bring a priest over to bless the house. We both felt a heavy feeling in the air as soon as Father P. and me walked in. Father P. then asked his friend, who was whispering in the back, if he could help.

They can be heard too! My friend explained to me that her daughters, now grown-ups, had moved in and they could all hear the murmuring but not understand what it was. My hearing is poor so I didn’t hear anything.

We passed through a bathroom that led to a bedroom at the back as the priest and me moved towards the rear of the house. Both of us felt an energy wave pass over us and we both exclaimed, “Whoa!” We both felt a wave of energy pass over us, and we said “Whoa!” simultaneously. My friend was not surprised. She said it happens sometimes when someone enters that bedroom. She explained that the house was purchased from the adult children who lived there but couldn’t care for themselves and had to move into a nursing home. They soon died. This room was the bedroom of an elderly woman. The priest entered the bedroom and found that twenty to thirty stickers had been placed on the back of it. All of them belonged to the elderly woman.

My friend shared with me that she felt something stopping her from scraping them off over the years. After blessing the entire room, the priest left the area to speak in private. I sat on the bed’s edge, praying the rosary, and asking Christ for the return of the spirit that dwells in this room. After some time, I was struck by the image of an old, naked woman with a white hair and walking into the cross base on which Jesus was hanging. The room began to lighten. I called Father P. and my friend who ran.

Both of them said something had happened in the room and that they could feel it. I could feel it too. The spirit of the old lady was released from the trap. Three days later, my friend called me to check on her. She stated that her house was peaceful and tranquil since that night. It had a peace she hadn’t experienced before. My friend had experienced something strange the night before. Her room was filled with roses when she woke up. This was something she could not explain.

“You’ve been visited and blessed by the Virgin Mary!” She was shocked.

She began studying to be a Catholic shortly afterward and was eventually received into the Catholic Church.

I have no idea why people live in peace with ghosts. Although I don’t feel frightened about the existence of discarnate spirits, I would like to send them my best wishes. It’s scary to live in a home with ghosts. Another reason I believe they are stuck on this plane of existence is because they are tormented and out of their element. They should be moving on but their attachment to the world meant that they couldn’t let go. I must admit that I am not able to understand this in Christian Theology. However, I have had too many experiences and heard too many similar stories, so I can say that they are either a product of the imagination or demon.

In 1993-1994, I lived mostly by myself in a West Feliciana old plantation house. Because the landlady was a close friend and spent most of her time in New Orleans, I said “mostly” alone. I house-sitted more than once, with the exception of weekends when they would visit.

I could choose from any of the four upstairs bedrooms. One of the bedrooms I moved into was in the front left quadrant. There, I never slept well. It was like I was being watched. It was a strange feeling that I tried to forget. It didn’t stop. To make it go away I tried to leave a lamp in the room. But nothing worked.

When my landlady’s husband was visiting me one weekend, she told me that I would have to move out of my home and live with my parents because I couldn’t sleep well. I said that I felt like she was watching me. Her husband suggested that we move to a different bedroom. That room has never allowed me to sleep. It happens to me often.”

I tried a new bedroom that night and fell asleep like a baby. This was where I stayed the rest of my time. After becoming certain that there was an unhappy spirit in the house (or perhaps the ancestor who hanged him from the ceiling many decades back), I began praying for the Holy Spirit’s cleansing of the place.

The spirit moved in the house on Saturday afternoon in January. When I was quietly praying a Rosary in the downstairs bedroom, the room filled up with sunshine and the scent of roses. It lasted exactly a decade (the second of The Glorious Mysteries if you are curious), and then it vanished. Two things were requested by me: First, I prayed for a prayer to thank the Virgin for her prayers as I considered whether to accept a new job. Second, I prayed to hold the hands of Kim, my friend, who was in a very difficult place due to her recent divorce. Kim arrived from the outside, where she was walking in the garden, just a few moments later. She was huge and held out her right hand to me.

“Smell this!” She said.

Her palm smelt strongly of roses.

“Did it have perfume? Use soap to wash it. I was curious.

She shook her head.

“Kim,” I replied, “I was praying a Rosary downstairs and was surrounded with the fragrance of roses.” “And I also prayed that the Virgin Mary would hold your hand during this divorce.”

Kim seemed to be going on her knees, I thought. The aroma of roses disappeared.

A Texas-based spiritually gifted Christian friend called me about an hour later. This was quite unusual. He wanted to know if there was anything spiritual going on that afternoon. He asked me if there was anything spiritual going on and I replied, telling him the stories.

He stated, “I needed to call because there was an overwhelming feeling that there was a cleansing wind blowing through my house.”

All of this happened on January 29, 1994. Kim was my sweetheart, whom I lost touch with a long time ago. She later moved away, got married again, and has a happy family, according to last I checked.

A book written by Mary Ann Winkowski was my inspiration for Ghost Whisperer. I remember reading it years ago on a lark. She spoke about ghosts in the book, and she claims she can see them. She said that ghosts are dependent on the high levels of emotional energy from the living. Although you might believe that a ghost would be found in a cemetery or other public place, Winkowski says they are more likely to be found in bars, sports arenas and any other places where people gather and experience highs. This is what it’s worth…
