According to a new CNN survey conducted by SSRS, President Joe Biden has a large lead over his declared Democratic opponents. However, he is facing headwinds from the public due to declining favorability, and the widespread belief that his reelection will be negative for the country.
Only a third of Americans believe that Biden’s victory in 2024 will be a positive step for the nation (33%). The survey also shows that Biden’s favorable ratings have declined over the last six months from 42% to 35%. The same poll, released earlier this week, showed Biden with a 40% approval rating. This is among the lowest ratings for any first-term President since Dwight Eisenhower.
In his own party, 60 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Republicans say they support Biden as the nominee for next year’s Democratic ticket. Twenty percent of Democratic voters and Democratic leaning Republicans back activist and lawyer Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., while eight per cent of Democratic voters and Democratic leaning Republican voters back author Marianne Williamson. Another 8% of voters say they’d support “someone else” who is not named.
