The Fiscal Responsibility Act was passed.
The House passed Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s proposal to increase the debt ceiling and cap government expenditures with 314-117 votes of bipartisan support on Wednesday night.
“There was a good vote in the House,” said Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Schumer stated, “I hope we can move this bill quickly in the Senate and get it to the President’s desk as fast as possible.”
The White House didn’t celebrate the passage of the bill. They stressed that neither side received what they wanted.
“Neither side got what it wanted.” In a statement released immediately following the vote, President Joe Biden stated that this is the responsibility of government. Biden thanked McCarthy and hoped the bill would move quickly through the Senate.
McCarthy’s tone was more celebratory.
“I had been preparing for this day before I was elected as speaker because I knew that the debt ceiling would be raised. He said, “I wanted to make history” at a press conference on Wednesday night
It wasn’t easy to fight. McCarthy stated that he had upset people on both sides. McCarthy said, “I think we did pretty well for the American people.”

Not all Republicans believe that this is a good thing for the American people.
Andrew Clyde, a Republican representative from the House of Representatives, said that “the disastrous debt ceiling agreement just passed with more Democrat than Republican votes.” In a late-night tweet, he called the bill “shameful”, saying that it “tells you everything you should know.”
