Naomi Wolf and The Ancient Gods

Jewish writer thinks Messianic Jewish pastor Jonathan Cahn is right about decline of Abrahamic religion opening door to return of Near East demons The post Naomi Wolf & The Ancient Gods appeared first on The American Conservative.

In a while, I haven’t paid much attention to Naomi Wolf, the writer. I knew that she was an anti-vaxxer but not much else. But a reader sent this essay about a book I enjoyed last year ( ) and which I wrote about. Let’s get to it.

She is writing about Jonathan Cahn, Messianic Jewish Rabbi,’s book The Return Of The Gods. Cahn argues that the ancient Near Eastern gods such as Moloch, Asherah and Baal to whom human sacrifices were made, did not disappear (since they are demons and not mere fictions), but were suppressed and then reintroduced to Christianity. Cahn says that we are now seeing the return of these ancient gods as Christianity declines in West. Cahn means it literally. Here is what Wolf, a Jew has to say about it.

It is possible, however, that God’s protection has been in place for over four thousand years and then for more than two thousand years. We have relied on God for this protection for many years. God has withdrawn His covenant, just as He warned us in Old Testament. Great evil flourishes in the absence of God’s protection and covenant in the West.

Pastor Cahn’s idea resonated with me because the energies I feel flooding into our world over the past two years feel primordially recognizable to me as an ancestral Jew.

These dark forces, now liberated into the world around them, feel the same way as the world felt before Moses ascended Mt Sinai; and before a baby was placed in a manger.

They feel like they are back in the pre-monotheistic past, like the world that the Hebrews faced when the Word was revealed to them.

It is again like the ancient world, which tempted the Hebrews to abandon the rigorous, daily, challenging practice of morality, and adherence to the Ten Commandments. It’s again like the ancient world, feeling as it did under Moloch’s, Baal’s and Asherahs complex, dark and antihuman rule.

It was, and it is now, a world where humans didn’t matter. It was, and it is now, a world where children can be killed by their parents or the authorities. It was — and it is now — a world where slavery has no moral valence. Lust and greed were — as they are now — everything. God wasn’t then fully present, and I now argue, Pastor Cahn says, God has withdrawn.

The West’s two-millennium-old commitment to JudeoChristian norms and values has been a hallmark of the West, even though we have fallen far short of them.

The great genius of America wasn’t that it was consecrated for a particular religion — that was the genius of our country. But our distinction was that our city was founded on a hill; spiritually, we were consecrated via our ultimate organizational manifestations of human freedom with its foundation in free will — God.

We can withdraw our participation in this covenant and perhaps Pastor Cahn is correct. Then, pagan entities that have been long kept at bay in the West, will be empowered and are able to rush back in.

So decency and human rights, as well as human values, which we believed were inherent secular Western values, are now values that can’t be preserved enduringly without the blessings of the West, a JudeoChristian God. These values are being eliminated from our society and very few — if any — people aren’t of faith are standing in the way of this.

This is what I feel, and it is terrifying. The world has been flooded, infused, bombarded with powerful energies since 2020. This may be a pre-Christian, presolidly-Jewish period that saw the oppressive and seductive entities that sought to seduce the Children Israel away from the monotheistic truth of the One God.

The only “principalities” and “powers” that I can see are the ancient “shedim,” who are capable of forming a national and global network of policy advocates and social workers. In two years and a half, the ancient “daimones,” are the only entities that I can see being powerful enough to end families, destroy sexuality, and fertility, and to celebrate the end to critical thinking. They also march us all into lockstep towards worship of technocrats, technocratism, and an orgiastic religious cult of self and other-annihilation.

It is important to note that if these “shedims” or “daimones are powerless, why do their symbols keep appearing everywhere? I used to think of fundamentalist Christians warning about Satan lurking in rock & roll as fanatics. What I see around me is what I can’t unsee.

View the entire article. She also has photos. She claims that once you’ve seen this stuff, it’s impossible to unsee it. By the way, Alex Ross from the New Yorker wrote six years ago. It was a very interesting piece on the occult roots and artistic, literary and cultural Modernism. Lies shows that the pre-revolutionary Russian elites were deeply involved in the occult. In my next book, I will refer to this guy as “Jonah”, an ex-occultist, who was involved at a high and intense level. He used to tell me how pop culture is flooded with this stuff, and how he and his occult buddies used to revel in the certainty that they would win because they controlled pop culture. Christians were no match.

One of the most bizarre things about the current moment is the realization that fundamentalists, whom I often mocked, were correct about most things.

Next month, Boston will host SatanCon. Lucien Greaves is the founder of The Satanic Temple and a master troller in liberalism. He told the Boston Globe:

TST requested in 2016 to give an invocation at a Boston City Council meeting. The request was denied by the City Council. The dedication to Wu was made in an effort to draw attention to Lucien Greaves, co-founder of TST, who called it “clear corruption” by the Boston City Council for violating religious freedoms protected by the Satanists. TST is currently suing Boston for denial of their request to invoke.

Lucien stated to the Globe that “the Supreme Court ruled in favour of such invocations to prayers being given as long as they are available and accessible to everybody.” They must still respect pluralism, respect religious liberty of people and acknowledge that no government agency can limit civic capacity of any viewpoint.

He’s right, isn’t he? This is what “religious freedom” in neutral public squares means. It doesn’t say “but Satanists” in the Constitution, does it? This is because the Founding Fathers never thought that this would be a problem. This wouldn’t have occurred before the last few decades. The usual liberal suspects will claim Greaves is just trolling and that it doesn’t actually mean that Greaves is worshiped and honored as the most evil spirit. This is liberal cope. It’s what right-thinking secularists use to help themselves calm down when the dark and scary stuff is coming.

This is what we are seeing, and it is coming at us quickly. Why? We have turned our backs on God. We are prying open doors that were shut and sealed centuries ago. The enemy is undefended by a liberalism that has not been founded on and bound by Biblical religion. Wolf wrote:

This — the lack of protection from our God — is what gives rise to a realm of Earth where we do it all ourselves. We regard ourselves as animals, worship ourselves, and follow only human laws. We treat children and families like battlefields. The Churches and Synagogues are treated like marketing platforms. These are, indeed, the realms pagan darkness and principalities and powers.

The next few years will be different. You will be mocked by people for not seeing the right thing in front of you, but you must persevere. It’s important. Unfortunately, I will be leaving many of you after March 10th. I hope that you will still follow me to Rod Dreher’s Diary, my Substack where you can continue our conversation about the important and weird things. It’s happening already. New subscribers are receiving daily mails from me, and the comments section is coming to life with all the intelligence of the one we had on this blog. Sign up! It costs only five dollars per month or fifty dollars per annum. Although I plan to write five days per week, you know that I will probably send out a dispatch every day.
