According to a local sheriff’s Office, a Nevada man was taken into custody after allegedly entering the home of an elderly woman, strangling and sexually assaulting them, then tying and kidnapping them.
“NCSO Detectives, US Marshalls [ sic] worked tirelessly today to locate Ryan Sanders. We are happy to announce that Ryan Sanders has been captured and is currently in Nye County Detention Center custody. This was the Nye Sheriff’s Office stated on Thursday via a Facebook post.
The victim, aged 73, was sleeping in her bed on Nov. 21 when Sanders allegedly sat on her chest. According to Fox 5, an arrest warrant he filed against him states that he strangled her and threatened to kill her. According to Fox 5, he was wearing a black mask, black top, and black gloves during the attack.
According to authorities, the man demanded “to find where the money and guns were in the house” and sexually assaulted multiple times.
According to authorities, he eventually kidnapped and forced the woman into her Chrysler sedan’s trunk before moving her to another vehicle. Fox 5 reported that Sanders also loaded the car with personal documents, a purse, and other belongings.
The elderly woman was then accompanied by the driver, who drove him to several locations including a Mexican restaurant and a hospital.
According to the warrant, Sanders drove back to the woman’s house and forced her out of her car. He then drove away in an RV close by the house. Then, he allegedly attempted to sexually assault her once more.
The suspect tied the woman up with a plastic bag and taped it over her head. The suspect also allegedly struck her on the head with a heavy object. This caused her to go unconscious.
Fox 5 reports that he believed he had left the woman for good. The woman woke up the next morning and was able to get help from a neighbor. Although she was taken to the local hospital, no updates are available on her condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, Sanders tried to sell two of the woman’s cars by telling people that he was “selling them to someone else.”
After a long manhunt that lasted days, Sanders was finally captured by authorities in Pahrump on Wednesday.
Pahrump is located in Nye County and is approximately 65 miles from Las Vegas.
According to the sheriff’s Office, his 13-year old son was present with him when he was arrested. He is currently in custody of Child and Family Services and is in good health.
Sanders faces a long list charges, which include attempted sexual assault, attempted killing, first degree kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Fox 5 reports that authorities are calling the crime a revenge attack and not random.
He is currently being held at Nye County Detention Centre.
