Pilot and passenger both killed in Nebraska small plane accident

A small plane crash in central Nebraska killed two people on Wednesday. The plane crashed as it was approaching the North Platte airport.

Officials said that a pilot and passenger were both killed in the crash of a small plane in rural Nebraska .

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the plane, which was single-engine, crashed at 9:30 AM Wednesday between North Platte, Maxwell and the village of Maxwell. The two passengers were killed, KNOP television reported. On Friday, the Nebraska State Patrol identified the two victims as Adam Helmerichs (41), who was the pilot of the plane, and Zachary Clausen (22). Both were Lincoln residents.

According to flight records, the plane had already left Lincoln airport in the morning. It crashed just as it was approaching the North Platte airport for landing. A small grass fire was also started by the crash.

Two men were killed in a small plane crash in Nebraska.

On Thursday, an NTSB investigator was scheduled to visit the crash site. Officials have not yet released the names or speculated on the cause of the crash.
