Officials have confirmed that the body of Seamus Grey, a 21 year old U.S. Navy Sailor who was reported missing last month has been discovered in Waukegan Illinois, along Lake Michigan.
Waukegan Police Department chief Edgardo Navarra said that a body matching Gray’s physical description had been pulled from Waukegan Harbor just after 7 pm on Wednesday. The body’s clothes also matched the description of the sailor who was missing, reported WGN9.
Police said that ComEd workers initially found the body in the area and alerted the authorities.
According to the outlet, the Lake County Coroner confirmed that the body was Gray’s. A scheduled autopsy is being conducted.
Gray was last seen in Waukegan, the day after St. Patricks Day. The police said that Gray and his friends had been drinking at the time.
According to WGN9, he was seen walking near a Metra station before he failed to show up at his 2 p.m. deadline.
Gray was assigned the Great Lakes.
His mother commented on his disappearance via social media.
She wrote: “The past 8 days have been excruciating, nauseating and heartbreaking, quite honestly soul crushing.” “This boy, along with his little sister Deck, is my heart and my world.
His mother said: “As i type this, I am trying to not throw up.” I will not be able to sleep until I know where my son is and what has happened to him.
