Posthumous degrees awarded to Virginia football players who were killed in a shooting

The University of Virginia approved a request to award the three football players killed in an on-campus shooting in November with posthumous degrees.

The University of Virginia voted in favor of awarding the posthumous degrees to the three football players who were killed in the shooting last month.

D’Sean Perry, Devin Chandler, and Lavel Davis Jr. were all students at the university’s College of Arts & Sciences. Rachel Most, the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Academic Programs Rachel Most was the one who requested the request.

Davis, a Ridgeville junior, was working towards a degree as an African American and African Studies major. Chandler, a sophomore in Huntersville, N.C. majored American studies. Perry, a senior in Miami, double-majored in studio art as well as African American and African Studies.

According to the university, each student’s degree was printed, and then delivered to Carla Williams, Director of Athletics. Williams attended all three funerals in her hometown with UVA President Jim Ryan and other university and athletics staff.

Perry, Chandler, and Davis were all killed in an attack by Christopher Jones Jr., a former UVA football player. The attack allegedly on a charter bus, which had just returned from a field trip in Washington, D.C., was reported to have been made by Christopher Jones Jr.

Jones was not reportedly on the team at all during the time of the victims.

According to the university, Marlee Morgan and Mike Hollins were also injured in the shooting but are now out of the hospital.

Hollins is one seven footballers who are expected to finish the requirements for their undergraduate degree requirements this month. According to reports, the football team celebrated the achievements of the players last week.

Over 9,000 people attended the emotional memorial service at the university on Nov. 19. Tony Elliott, the head football coach, referred to the three victims as “lights” and said that they will be guiding their teammates.

On Thursday, December 1, the university hosted its 21st annual Lighting of the Lawn ceremony where students had an opportunity to pay tribute to Perry, Chandler, and Davis. The event usually features a holiday poem, but four people (including Elliot) read a poem in honor of the young men.

Elliot, who was on stage at the university, said, “Let’s remember them all in light that we share. And fuel any dimming ember into an energetic beam.” “This semester has brought us to our knees. We face them together, and we do it with grace.
