The first bill prohibits Iowa doctors from prescribing hormone therapy or puberty blockers to children younger than 18. The law also bans “gender transition procedures” which would “affirm the perception of the minors gender or sexuality.”

According to the text of the law, any doctor found to be in violation is subject to licensing board discipline. Individuals can also take legal action against doctors performing gender transitions on minors.

Reynolds signed the measure in accordance to the bill’s text. This means that minors currently undergoing Iowa’s gender transition procedures will be forced to stop receiving care within 180 days.

Reynolds also signed Senate Fil 482 into law. This bill “prohibits persons from entering single or multiple occupancy toilets or changing areas in elementary and secondary school that do not correspond to the person’s biological sexual sex.”
