CIR, according to its website is an “independent non-profit social enterprise” that combats disinformation and exposes human rights violations. It also combats online behavior harmful for women and minorities.
The organization was founded by Adam Rutland, a U.K. citizen, and Ross Burley, a dual U.K./U.S. citizen. It conducts research, develops local partnerships, and collaborates with media to “amplify its impact.”
According to the registration documents, CIR was funded “in part” by grants from the U.K. government, which includes the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office.
The documents state that Jankowicz will have the following responsibilities: supervising research, execution of business strategy, overseeing CIR’s research, communicating to the media and briefing officials and individuals about the organization’s research.
Jankowicz was briefly the director of Disinformation Governance Board, before the entire department was dissolved due to privacy concerns.
Jankowicz was also famous for her videos singing songs about disinformation.
