RADIO SILENCE: Massive Cutbacks at NPR, Four Podcasts Canceled, 10% of Workforce Cut

National Public Radio is being forced to make some aggressive cuts.

National Public Radio has been forced to make drastic cuts.

According to Fox News,NPR is cutting 10% of its staff and halting production of four of its most popular podcasts including “Invisibilia,” Louder Than a Riot,” and “Rough Translation.”

None of the radio programs have been cancelled –yet.

“Every staff member cares deeply for public radio’s mission, and has worked hard in contributing to it.” “This is a difficult time for everyone within this organization,” a spokesperson from NPR told Fox News Digital.

NPR estimates that advertising revenue will drop by $30 million by 2023.

NPR reports that most of the affected staff will continue to be on the payroll through April.

The Washington Post reported Lansing signaled to NPR management that it would work with its charitable foundation in order to obtain more funding “if the deficit continues to grow.”

NPR wasn’t the only news outlet to be affected by layoffs. According to Fred Ryan, the Washington Post’s publisher, it had 20 layoffs in January and ten more in November. This resulted in a “single digit” decrease in its workforce.

CNN suffered widespread layoffs in the latter part of last year. This affected rank and file staff, journalists, pundits, as well as all live programming staff at HLN. This followed hundreds of jobs being reshuffled or scrapped following the collapse of CNN+, its streaming service.
