The much-anticipated Twitter live event featuring Florida Gov. The Twitter servers were unable to handle the traffic surge on Wednesday, which caused Ron DeSantis’ planned announcement of his Republican presidential run in 2024 to be repeatedly interrupted.

Twitter users have reported that their app crashed when they tried to listen in on the event, where Twitter’s Elon Musk was present to announce the news alongside DeSantis. After the early glitches were resolved, DeSantis answered a series friendly questions which allowed him to highlight his main talking points.

DeSantis’ account was sometimes absent from audio-only events on the feature called Twitter Spaces. Twitter published metrics that showed more than 600,000.

“We are reallocating server capacity to be able handle the load in this area. Musk stated at one point that “it’s going crazy”.

Musk had closed the first Twitter Spaces event, and a second was started on the app, 20 minutes after it had been scheduled. According to Twitter’s data for the public, DeSantis delivered a short speech in a space that attracted 161,000 people.

DeSantis stated, “I’m running for President of the United States in order to lead our great American Comeback.”

DeSantis’ political team spent weeks in negotiations to get the moment he wanted. There were less than 70,000 viewers left, which is a much smaller audience for a presidential campaign launch.

“The decline of the United States is not inevitable.” He said, “It is a decision.” “We should choose a different direction, one that leads to American revitalization.”

DeSantis’ remarks were dominated by the same culture war talking points which have characterized his tenure as Florida Governor. He touched on topics such as introducing policy changes to Florida’s education system that appeal to right-wing audiences. He also pushed back against the notion his administration had tried to ban books, and defended immigration crackdowns.

Biden’s inflationary policies hurt working people. DeSantis stated that we would reverse these policies and build an economy in which working Americans can enjoy a high standard of living.

DeSantis’ opponents took delight in DeSantis’ problems.

The President Joe Biden Twitter account has posted the link to his fundraising page. He wrote, “This link is working.”

The former president Donald Trump took advantage of the event to launch an attack ad against DeSantis which he shared to his Twitter competitor, Truth Social.

DeSantis’ campaign insisted, however, that the technical difficulties showed how many people were flooding Twitter eager for his campaign.

“Gov. DeSantis has broken the internet. That should tell you all you need to about his strength as a candidate,” said a senior official in the campaign.

“Groundbreaking announcement. “Internet-breaking excitement”, said DeSantis’ campaign spokesperson Dave Abrams.

DeSantis released a video launch Wednesday evening in which he said he was prepared to lead a “Great American Comeback.”

“Our border has become a disaster.” Our cities are infested with crime. Families are struggling to get by because of the federal government. DeSantis stated in the spot that the president is a failure.
