Ron DeSantis fires Manhattan DA Prosecutor: ‘Part the authoritarian playbook.’

In 2022, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended state attorney Andrew Warren. In an interview with NBC News, Warren criticizes the GOP's attack on prosecutors.

Florida Gov. Some conservatives have taken offense at Ron DeSantis’s take at former President Donald Trump, and his potential indictment.

DeSantis, a likely GOP presidential candidate in 2024, has been in sync with other Republicans in his critique of Alvin Bragg as Manhattan District Attorney. He accuses Bragg of ” following a political agenda” while calling him “a Soros funded prosecutor.”

In an attempt to tie Bragg with liberal mega-donor George Soros, the attempt has been an frequently-repeated talking point by the right in an attempt to weaken or remove prosecutors .

Andrew Warren is the best person to know this strategy.

Warren, a Democrat was elected Hillsborough County State Attorney in 2020. He won the support of 53% his constituents. In August 2022, DeSantis suspended Warren indefinitely. This was because Warren had stated that he would not enforce restrictions regarding abortion and gender therapy. Warren was accused of “flagrantly violating” his oath.

Warren’s attempts to be reinstated by the law have been unsuccessful.

Warren stated that a part of the new GOP script allows Republicans to pursue prosecutors they consider enemies.

Warren stated that this has been a part of authoritarian politics in an interview with NBC News. “Where, rather than solving problems you’re fanning flames,” Warren said in an interview with NBC News.

“We have issues in the area of criminal justice that we must address. How can we reduce gun violence How can we make our system safer and more efficient? Warren said that DeSantis, Trump and others “are not helping to solve these problems” but instead are attacking their political opponents with false narratives.

“That’s something that you would expect to see in Russia.” He said, “Not in the United States.”

Bragg’s campaign to become Manhattan D.A. was supported by Soros. Through The Color of Change PAC. In 2020, Warren acknowledged that Soros might have helped him in his first successful campaign four-years ago.

Warren stated, “There’s tremendous hypocrisy,” Warren pointed out. He said DeSantis had suspended him for refusing to enforce laws. However, it also seemed to suggest that Bragg should not be prosecuted for any Trump-related crimes.

Warren spoke out about DeSantis, saying that he claimed he wasn’t going after abortion cases and wouldn’t pursue violations of transgender laws that don’t exist. “But at the exact same time, he’s suggesting that the D.A. Trump should not be charged with a crime that isn’t important to him.

Trump and DeSantis attacked prosecutors who didn’t prioritize culture war issues, but were okay with prosecutors not enforcing law when it hurts their political party members.

Responding to questions by NBC News regarding Warren’s recent comments, Jeremy Redfern (a spokesman for Florida governor) said that “Mr. Warren is still suspended from the office that he did not serve.

DeSantis is himself a former military prosecutor and has made comments on selective prosecution.

While he has repeatedly taken aim at Social Justice activists and liberal Big-City prosecutors and others for decriminalizing some actions through what he considers nonenforcement, DeSantis has walked a fine balance in staking his particular philosophy regarding selective prosecution and applying law equally to all public figures, , as NBC News reported.

DeSantis stated in his newly released political memoir that a prosecutor may decline to prosecute cases. However, such declination must result from an individual determination about the merits and not due to a blanket policy to non-enforcement.

DeSantis seems to draw an implicit distinction between nonenforcement strategies related to specific criminal actions, but he is clear that there is a “duty for the prosecutor to comply with the law.”

DeSantis had introduced a constitutional amendment earlier in his career as a member in Congress that would have required all laws to apply to legislators the same way they apply to others. Warren pointed out that this proposal is contrary to Trump’s response to him.

Warren stated, “This is hypocrisy.”
