TikTok is being kicked out by the House of Representatives
A Fox News report claims that the House of Representatives ordered the removal of TikTok, a Chinese social media app, from all House-managed devices.
This order comes after a wave anti-TikTok actions in both the White House and Congress.
Fox News received an email containing details.
From Fox News :
Catherine L. Szpindor, House Chief Administrative Office, sent an email to lawmakers and staff members informing them that TikTok was banned from all House-managed devices. The email states that the policy will be in effect “beginning immediately.”
This message is coming after Congress included a bill to prohibit TikTok from executive-branch government devices in its 4,000-plus-page Omnibus package.
Now, the House is moving to align its policies with those for the executive that were contained in the legislation.
The email stated that The Office of Cybersecurity had “deemed The TikTok mobile app to be a high-risk user due to a variety of security risks.”
The email states that “By way for background, the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2023 requires executive branding agencies to start removing the social network service TikTok and any successor application or service created or provided ByteDance Limited.” The Office of Cybersecurity has been authorized by the Committee on House Administration to implement a similar policy in the U.S House of Representatives.
TikTok’s Chinese parent company is ByteDance Limited.
The No TikTok on Government Devices Act is the measure contained in the Omnibus. It prohibits the use of the social media app on any government-issued device.
In the third quarter 2022, TikTok had more than 1.5 billion active users per month.
