San Francisco launched a guaranteed income program to assist financial security for transgender residents.
San Francisco Mayor London breed announced Wednesday that the program will pay low-income transgender residents up to $1200 per month for up 18 months.

G.I.F.T. is the program that guarantees income for transgender people. As a way of combating poverty, the program, Guaranteed Income for Transgender People (G.I.F.T.) will provide ” economically marginalized people with unrestricted monthly guaranteed income.”
According to the website, the program will prioritize these demographics for enrollment.

This program is one of many city programs that support San Francisco residents. It will provide support for 55 people. According to the outlet, participants will receive gender-affirming mental and medical care.
Breed stated in a statement that “Our Guaranteed Income Programs enable us to help residents when they most need it as part of our city’s economic recovery” and his commitment to making the city a better place for all. We know that trans communities have higher rates of poverty and discrimination. This program will help individuals in these communities.
