WASHINGTON D.C.-The ability of artificial intelligence to fool voters poses a serious threat for the elections in 2024, according to several senators.
Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat Senator, said to Fox News that he would rate his fear on a scale from 1-10, based on the abuses of impersonation, false images, deepfakes and voice cloning. “Consumers should be informed when deepfakes or cloned voice occur.”

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley rated his concern at 10 out of 10. He released earlier this week a list of “guiding principles” for future AI legislation. The Republican noted that AI is already capable of creating realistic deepfake video. He added that he was “very, extremely concerned” by this.
AI applications are becoming more common across all industries. The rapidly evolving technology is already proving to be an effective attack tool in some presidential campaigns for 2024. Analysts and lawmakers have warned that artificial intelligence could disrupt the elections and harm political accountability.

Fox News quoted Sen. JDVance as saying: “My biggest concern with AI is that it will warp our political conversations.”
The Ohio Republican went on to say that there would be viral videos featuring either Donald Trump, or Joe Biden. These videos will change the votes but not them. It’s a figment from an AI creator.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn had similar worries.
The Tennessee Republican stated, “They can use AI to insert people in situations where they weren’t.” This should be of concern to us all.
Blackburn said: “It shows people that they have to be careful about what they see online, hear online, and what they believe.”

A political fund-raiser wrote on Fox News that the politician who can use AI best will have a competitive advantage in 2024. According to Sen. Pete Ricketts of the United States, China is already using AI to spread propaganda internationally.
Both the campaigns of former President Donald Trump, and Florida Gov. Both Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump have used AI-generated material.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis believes that AI’s rapid growth can make it difficult to accurately predict the impact of the technology on the vote.

Lummis stated that “we’ll have to monitor this carefully and be familiar with its use and misuses.”
