Seven people rescued following partial building collapse near Yale Campus

A single-story building under construction near the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, collapsed Friday, requiring the rescues of seven people.

The building was under construction in New Haven. It partially collapsed on Friday and injured several people. They were pulled out of the rubble. However, officials said that there were no fatalities.

Around 12:30 pm, city firefighters and other authorities responded on Lafayette Street.

Mayor Justin Elicker said that seven people were trapped inside the building, two of whom were in critical conditions. All of the victims were taken to hospital after being removed from the rubble.

On a radio scanner, fire officials could be heard saying that all the people at the scene were safe.

Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Television news footage shows first responders carrying a person away from the scene.

Lafayette Street, which is home to many medical offices, is located near the Yale New Haven Hospital as well as the Yale School of Medicine.
